Etar

The architectural ethnographic complex “Etar” is a one of a kind museum in Bulgaria, since its entire exposition recreates the architectural and economic past of the town of Gabrovo during the period of the Renaissance, the latter half of the 18th century and the start of the 19th. The museum itself was opened in 1964.

The open nature of the museum allows for craftsmen to create their works before the eyes of visitors. This way every guest of Etar can observe old technologies and instruments, speak with masters of various crafts and even purchase souvenirs.

The craftsmen practicing at Etar include potters, coppersmiths, furriers and many others. Every year, at the start of September, Etar hosts a traditional crafts fair, which brings craftsmen and guests together from all over the country to showcase and feel the spirit of Bulgarian traditions.
